The Kuwaiti criminal court sentenced seven people to death Tuesday on charges related to the mosque bombing that killed 27, state news agency KUNA reported.

KUNA reported eight other suspects received two to 15 years in prison, while 14 were found not guilty.

Those sentenced to death included the suspect who drove the Saudi suicide bomber to the mosque and another believed to be the leader of the local Daesh (ISIS) branch. Five of the seven received their sentences in absentia.

The attack on Imam al-Sadiq Mosque in Kuwait City in late June killed 27 people and injured more than 200. Daesh often targets Shia mosques and claimed responsibility for the casualties.

The total of 29 defendants included seven Kuwaitis, five Saudis, three Pakistanis and 13 stateless "Bidoon" from Kuwait. One unidentified person is still at large, AFP reported.
