King of Morocco Mohammed VI's mother dies aged 78

ALBAWABA - The official spokesman for the Moroccan Royal Palace announced on Saturday the death of King Mohammed VI’s mother, Lalla Latifa Amahzoune.

Princess Latifa Hammou, who passed away aged 78, is the widow of the former King of Morocco, Hassan II, and the mother of King Mohammed VI.

According to Moroccan news outlets, King Mohammed VI visited his late mother in the French capital, Paris, last April, after her health condition deteriorated.

Lalla Latifa Amahzoune and King Hassan II have five children; Princess Lalla Meryem, King Mohammed VI, Princess Lalla Asma, Princess Lalla Hasna, and Prince Moulay Rachid.

Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, posted on X expressing his condolences following the news of the death of Moroccan King's mother on Saturday.

He wrote: "Our condolences to the brotherly Moroccan people and to His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the death of his mother, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Latifa, may God have mercy on her and cover her with his vast mercy... and inspire her family and loved ones, the royal family and the brotherly Moroccan people with patience and solace... and we belong to God and to Him we shall return."

About Lalla Latifa Amahzoune:

Lalla Latifa Amahzoune was born in 1946 in Khenifra, Morocco.

She hailed from the prominent Amahzoune family, part of the Zayane tribe. Her father, Hassan ould Mouha ou Hammou Zayani, was the Pasha of Khenifra and a respected figure in the region.

Lalla Latifa remained a private individual throughout her life, adhering to the Moroccan royal family’s protocol. Lalla Latifa never held a public role but she was noticed during her supportive presence behind the scenes, Morocco World News reported.
