Two people were killed and about 20 wounded Thursday when mortar rounds fell near the Kosovo village of Krivenik close to the border with Macedonia, the NATO-led peace force in Kosovo said.
Krivenik is located just four kilometres (two miles) across from the border from the Macedonian hamlet of Gracani, where Macedonian forces were waging an offensive against ethnic Albanian rebels.
The rebel commander in the Gracani area, who fights under the name Studenti, told AFP by phone the mortars had come from Macedonian army posistions close to the deserted village.
An English cameraman from the Associated Press was among the injured and was evacuated by helicopter to a US military base in southeastern Kosovo, the news agency in Pristina said -- PRISTINA, Yugoslavia (AFP)
