Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates Takes Steps to Minimize Environmental ‘Footprint’
In light of recent government initiatives and global climate changes, Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates is set to introduce new measures to ensure facilities and operations have as little effect on the environment as possible, thereby minimizing the hotels environmental ‘footprint’.
The hotel is currently undergoing preliminary reviews to establish what is required by the United States Green Building Council (USGC) in order for them to obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Evaluations will be conducted according to the guidelines set by LEED and studies will be undertaken by an external consultant to advise if any requirements of changes are to be executed.
Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates’ Technical Director, Mr Mohamed Zeid said “In order for us to be categorised as ‘green’ there are six different objectives we need to undergo assessment for, these are: - sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation in operation, which pertain to our existing building”.
“Initially to understand our ability for sustainability, the hotel needs to analyse the sum of its impact or ‘footprint’. A sustainable hotel needs to have as small a ‘footprint’ as possible”, continued Zeid.
Over the coming months, energy saving methods will be introduced; water-saving equipment and techniques will be implemented, recycling encourage amongst staff and guest to reduce conventional waste-haulage. Many staff members from Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates are also known as ‘Green Warriors’ seeking out opportunities to recycle, reuse and save energy throughout the hotel.
“Exceptional hospitality and care for the environment are what we are passionate about, these manoeuvres will contribute to creating ‘green’ surroundings and processes. Not only assisting the environment but also the well-being of our staff and guests” said Holger Schroth General Manager, Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates. “We want to do our part in the process for conserving the future”.
