Sweet lovers and generous residents in Dubai ensured a sell-out event as the Jumeirah Giant Charity Cake Sale sold a massive 3,338 cakes on Friday, June 26, at Mercato. Being held for the sixth consecutive year and an annual DSS highlight, the sale proceeds were handed over to the Dubai Autism Centre.
Starting at 6pm, the Cake Sale caught the attention of every shopper at Mercato. The towering device that held the 3,338 cakes prepared by the pastry chefs of the luxury hotels under the Jumeirah Group was eye-catching. With over 100 Jumeirah colleagues on the stand, each cake was sold for the tantalizing price of AED 30. Moreover, the “Lend a Hand to Children with Autism” banner and the “Cakes for AED 20 within 20-minute Promo” helped in mobilizing people to grab a cake.
The charity drive made shoppers lend help to the centre and satisfy themselves with delicious cakes that were baked in 15 varieties of all flavors, designs, and sizes.
Mercato shoppers had so much fun in participating in the event. Sarah Williams, a British local and Dubai resident, said, “I bought lots of cakes, you just cannot imagine. I will able to taste the fantastic cakes from Jumeirah; and more importantly, I also have given something to charity. It’s the best thing I did this summer.”
The same sentiment was shared by Vinu Krishnan, Indian, who said, “This Giant Cake Sale is a fantastic way of enabling ordinary people to do something extraordinary. Apart from being a charity event, the cake sale was a fun evening for the whole family.”
