Judge Goldstone: Israel, Hamas committed ”war crimes”

A U.N. probe into the Israeli-Palestinian war in Gaza Strip has found evidence that both sides committed "war crimes." According to the AP, the United Nations said the investigation led by former South African judge Richard Goldstone concluded that "Israel committed actions amounting to war crimes, possibly crimes against humanity," during its Dec. 27-Jan. 18 military offensive in the Palestinian enclave.

The U.N. added the report published Tuesday "concludes there is also evidence that Palestinian armed groups committed war crimes, as well as possibly crimes against humanity," by firing rockets into southern Israel.

Israel refused to cooperate with the investigation, saying the U.N. Human Rights Council that ordered it was biased against the Jewish state. "Israel did not feel able to cooperate with the Fact Finding Mission because its mandate was clearly one-sided and ignored the thousands of Hamas missile attacks on civilians in southern Israel that made the Gaza Operation necessary," a statement by the Israeli foreign ministry has claimed.
