Jordan's King Abdullah II on Sunday threw his country's full support behind the Palestinian people, blaming Israeli "provocation" for four days of bloody clashes.
"His Majesty King Abdullah II underscored Jordan's support, through all its means, to the Palestinian brothers, in their current ordeal and renewed Jordan's rejection of provocative and unjustified action," state television and Petra news agency quoted the monarch as saying.
Abdullah made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, during which the king "offered his condolences" for the death of more than 30 Palestinians in four days of clashes with Israeli troops, the state media said.
Abdullah and Arafat also agreed that the Palestinian leader will travel Monday to Jordan for consultations with the Jordanian authorities, it said.
On Saturday Arafat went to Egypt, the only other Arab country apart from Jordan to have signed a peace treaty with Israel, for talks with President Hosni Mubarak - AMMAN (AFP)
