A Jordanian citizen died Monday and three other people were injured, as a new Hamas-led security force exchanged heavy fire with gunmen near the Palestinian parliament building in Gaza city.
Hospital officials identified the man as Jordanian citizen Khaled Radaida, 45, and said he was the driver of Jordan's ambassador in Gaza.
The fighting, which erupted in an area between the Palestinian parliament and police headquarters, involved Fatah activists, Hamas activists, members of the Palestinian security forces and members of the new Hamas security force.
Security officials said the incident began when members of the new Hamas unit stopped a car carrying members of the Preventive Security Service. Preventive Security officials said Hamas militiamen fired at the car.
Earlier, gunmen fired at two Fatah activists in southern Gaza Strip, killing one and wounding the other early Monday. The two men, Mohammad Abu Tuaima and Mahmoud Abu Salah, were members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the military wing of Fatah, Palestinian security sources told Kuna.
Medics said Abu Tuaima was instantly killed with a gunshot to the head, while Abu Salah was wounded when a bullet pierced his chest. Abu Salah was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Palestinian radio reported that the two were attacked by members of the new security force established by Hamas.
