ALBAWABA - In a press conference, Japanese Government spokesperson Hiroshi Moriya stated that a Chinese man had stabbed a student in a Japanese school in Shenzhen in southern China, where the student was immediately hospitalized.
Moriya added that the attacker was detained by the police for further questioning as an investigation was launched into the tragic incident.
A Japanese official source stated the elementary school student was stabbed as he was on his way to school.
According to Moriya, the Japanese consulate general in the province has requested that authorities disclose specifics and has dispatched staff members to the region to gather information and give appropriate support.
"From the perspective of protecting Japanese nationals, we have made a request to the local authorities, including measures to prevent recurrence and sharing detailed information," Secretary Hiroshi Moriya said at a press conference earlier this morning.
The incident came after a knife assault in Suzhou, near Shanghai, in June that wounded a Japanese mother and child and killed a Chinese lady while attempting to stop the attacker.
Wednesday commemorated the 93rd anniversary of the Japanese bombing of a railroad link near Shenyang, which sparked the Manchurian Incident and Japan's invasion of northeastern China in 1931.
