A glamorous international crowd attended JAMM’s premier Middle East event of Contemporary Arab & Iranian auction in Kuwait at the Al Cornice Club which totaled sales more that half a million dollars.
Art enthusiasts came from across the globe, showing the continued international appeal for Contemporary Arab & Iranian art pieces. The highlight of the auction conducted by Aileen Agopian, Director of Contemporary Art, New York was an animated projection on painting titled “The Rabbits” by the Iranian artist, Farideh Lashai that sold for $ 37,000. The second highest selling lot was also by an Iranian artist, Rokni Haerizadeh titled, “The Fall of Shab-Rang at $ 31,000 followed by a Kuwaiti artist, Shurooq Amin whose painting titled, “Society Girls sold at $ 28,000.

Apart from the 17 Kuwaiti artists that included Sami Mohammed, Hind Akil, Fareed Abdul, Ghadah Alkandari, Ibrahim Ismail, Ibrahim Habib, Rania Abdulhassan whose work that went under the hammer, the other renowned Middle Eastern artists featured at the auction included Mohammad Rawas, Rokni Haerizadeh, Nabil Nahas, Jamal Abdul Rahim, Reza Derakshani, Hassan Meer, Ahmed Alsoudani, Farideh Lashai, Chant Avedissian and Lamya Gargash.
30% of the proceeds from the auction sale will benefit a Kuwait based non-profit organization, K’S PATH (The Kuwait Society for the Protection of Animals and Their Habitat). The revolutionary new organization focuses on the environment, protection of animals and bridging the gap between animals and the multicultural population living in Kuwait.
