The Israeli parliament voted Monday on preliminary reading in favor of a bill preventing a prime minister without a parliamentary majority from signing any international accords.
The bill is seen as a deliberate move to block Prime Minister Ehud Barak, who has been limping along at the head of a minority government since July, from signing a peace deal with the Palestinians.
The bill, which requires another three readings before becoming law, was sponsored by right-wing MPs Benny Elon from the National Union party and Danny Naveh of Likud.
It won the support of 49 MPs. -- JERUSALEM (AFP)
