The Israeli army on Wednesday reopened the Rafah crossing between the Palestinian self-ruled Gaza Strip and Egypt, a Palestinian security official said.

The terms for reopening nearby Gaza airport, as agreed in a Sharm el-Sheikh truce accord on Tuesday, were to be finalized later in the day, the source said.

The army took full control of the Rafah terminal on Monday, closing the crossing, after gunfights in Rafah during which a Palestinian policeman was killed and eight people wounded, two of them Israeli soldiers.

The terminal is manned by Palestinians, with the Israeli army in charge of security, under the self-rule accords which have left the Jewish state in control of Palestinian borders – GAZA CITY (AFP)
