ALBAWABA - A series of papers purportedly belonging to Hamas were leaked, and Israeli authorities have launched an inquiry into them. The documents were purportedly altered to support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's position.

The investigation, which involves the Shin Bet security agency and Israel's police, looks at papers that the Israeli military is said to have obtained in Gaza. Sources claim that these papers were manipulated to imply that Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas, intended to transport detainees via the Philadelphia Corridor.

According to the inquiry, Netanyahu hoped to exploit the manipulated papers to support his case for keeping Israeli forces stationed at the border between Egypt and Gaza. Some employees of Netanyahu's administration have sought legal advice due to the continuing investigation.

Detailed reporting on the probe is presently limited due to military restrictions. On Sunday, applications from local media outlets asking the Israeli Supreme Court to relax restrictions and allow the publishing of probe information are anticipated.

Leading opposition leaders, like as Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz, have charged Netanyahu of being behind the purported leak, which they say is a major security lapse. Noting that "many leaks have come from cabinet meetings related to negotiations," Netanyahu, however, denied any leaks from his office and declared his support for removing the publication prohibition on the probe.
