U.S. warplanes attacked Baghdad's Sadr City district overnight to "neutralize roadside bombs" that regularly explode as American patrols drive through the area, the US military said Thursday.
AC-130 gunships fired into the district's streets, which are littered with improvised bombs, said Capt. Brian O'Malley of the 1st Cavalry Division.
According to The AP, residents held a funeral Thursday for a man they said was killed in the strikes.
Also in Baghdad, U.S. authorities raised the security alert in the Green Zone after an improvised bomb was found in front of a restaurant there, officials said Thursday. Later, a huge blast rocked the Zone, which houses major U.S. and Iraqi government offices. There were no reports on casualties. (albawaba.com)
