Iraq said it fired ground-to-air missiles Friday at US and British military planes, flying over the north and south of the country, forcing them to flee.
The missiles forced the aircraft to go back to their bases in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Turkey, the Iraqi anti-aircraft command spokesman said, quoted by the official INA news agency.
Iraq has used anti-aircraft fire on a near-daily basis against planes from the two countries since December 1998 as they patrol the no-fly zones north of the 36th parallel and south of the 33rd.
Baghdad does not recognise the no-fly zones and says the raids by US and British planes have left 300 dead and 891 wounded since the end of 1998 - BAGHDAD (AFP)
