Iraq: Leader of Sunni party escapes blast

Iraqi police said a car bomb apparently targeting the leader of the country's largest Sunni political party has injured four people northeast of Baghdad. The politician escaped unharmed.

 

According to the AP, security sources sid the car, parked near a restaurant in the city of Baqouba, went off two minutes after a convoy passed by with the leader of the Iraqi Islamic Party Osama al-Tikriti and other officials. None of the officials were injured. The wounded were civilian bystanders in the area.

 

Police Capt. Ghalib al-Karkhi conveyed Thursday's explosion destroyed a number of shops along Baqouba's main street.
