Car bombs throughout Iraq have left six people dead Sunday, according to the Associated Press.

Maj. Gen. Torhan Abdul-Rahman Youssef from the Kirkuk Deputy Police reported that three car bombs exploded Sunday killing four and wounding 14 Sunday afternoon in three different neighborhoods.

Closer to the capital, police and medical officials told AP that gunmen targeted and killed a former army officer and his wife in one of Baghdad's northeastern neighborhoods.

Violence in Iraq has escalated over the course of 2013, and more recently due to the government's attempt to dismantle the anti-government Sunni protest camp in Anbar province due to suspected Al Qaeda recruiting and development activities.
