Iran protests: Pro-Ahmadinejad supporters gather in Tehran

Tens of thousands of Iranians on Tuesday gathered in a central Tehran square, in an apparent show of support for re-elected President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The supporters met at Valli-Asr Square, but the Iranian president was not among them as he is on a visit to Russia to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Council summit.

According to Press TV, the pro-Ahmadinejad rally came 24 hours after supporters of reformist candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi rallied elsewhere in central Tehran.

Meanwhile, Press TV reported the "main agents" in post-election unrest were detained with explosives and guns. The semi-official Fars News Agency quoted a senior police official as saying some "anti-revolutionary" people had been arrested with bomb material and weapons.
