Iran has launched production of 125mm shells for the T-72 tank, said the Middle East Newsline (MENL).
The new capability, according to MENL, is expected to bolster Iran's fleet of about 200 T-72 tanks.
Tehran is also said to have about 50 Zulfikar tanks, which are based on the T-72 and produced in Iran.
Defense Ministry official Seyed-Razi Shabiri, who heads ammunition production, was quoted by the news service as saying that “the production of the 125mm shells develops a new field of technology for the Islamic republic,” noting that the shells can destroy targets at a range of up to 2.4 kilometers – Albawaba.com
