A group of Iranian pilgrims will cross into Iraq on Friday for the first such trip since the visits were stopped in July over a dispute about entry fees, state radio reported.
The row was resolved following a visit to Baghdad earlier this month by Kamal Kharazi, the first Iranian foreign minister to go to the Iraqi capital in a decade.
Iranian officials said that, under the new agreement, pilgrims will be able to stay one extra day in Iraq and that the number allowed to make the voyage every week has been raised from 3,000 to 4,800.
Iran said in July that Iraqi border guards had reneged on the existing deal and were overcharging for entry fees, blocking 600 pilgrims who had been planning to visit the shrine of Prophet Mohamed's grandson Hossein -- TEHRAN (AFP)
