Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi on Saturday blasted Western "silence" over the eight weeks of Israeli-Palestinian bloodshed that have left more than 280 people dead.

"The silence of the West shows clearly that human beings and human rights don't have the same value for the West," he said in a speech at a seminar on Islam and the West, reported by state radio.

He again called on the international community to "assume its responsibilities to help the Palestinians."

Last week, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called on Arab and Muslim countries to cut off oil supplies to supporters of the Jewish state, which is not recognized by the Islamic republic.

Iran has welcomed the latest Intifada, or uprising, against Israel and called for all Palestinians and their families to have the right to return to their homeland – TEHRAN (AFP)
