A mini Arab summit is likely to be held in Egypt Wednesday, gathering Saudi Arabia, Syria, Bahrain and the host country, according to reports on Tuesday.
The goal of the reported gathering is to discuss a suitable date for the Arab Summit that was to be kicked off earlier this week in Tunisia before the would-be host country postponed it.
Quoting Arab diplomatic sources, Al-Jazeera reported that the Syrian President and Bahraini King would join the meeting of Mubarak and the Saudi Crown Prince in the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
The Saudi Crown Prince is scheduled to make a three-hour stop in Sharm el-Sheikh Wednesday for a meeting with Mubarak before continuing to Austria for an official three-day visit.
Meanwhile, the official SANA news agency reported that the Syrian foreign minister Monday held phone discussions with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia and Egypt as well as Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa.
The topic was finding ways to settle on a date to continue discussing the remaining agendas on the awaited Arab Summit.
Meanwhile, Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak met Tuesday in Sharm el-Sheikh with Syrian foreign minister Farouk a-Shara in an attempt to bridge gaps ahead of the upcoming Arab summit. The Syrian foreign minister handed the Egyptian leader a message from President Bashar al-Assad.
Mubarak also held talks with King Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa of Bahrain in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday. (Albawaba.com)
