Palestinian President, Yasser Arafat, died Tuesday afternoon in a Paris hospital, official sources in the Jordanian capital of Amman has informed Albawaba. The official announcement of his demise will be delivered later.

The sources added Arafat would be buried in his headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah. His body will be going to the Palestinian territories through Jordan, where a funeral procession will be held in Amman.

Following the news, Jordanian authorities beefed up security around the capital city, Albawaba sources have indicated.

Arafat suffered a brain hemorrhage, his top aide, Tayeb Abdel Rahim said earlier in Ramallah. The 75-year-old leader started bleeding Monday evening and was in critical condition at the Percy Military Training Hospital in southwest Paris, Abdel Rahim told a news conference.

In the meantime, top cleric Tayssir Tamimi was rushing from the West Bank to Arafat's bedside at the request of Palestinian officials. Tamimi, the head of the Islamic court in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, said he was going to Paris "to be near President Arafat at this crucial time," The AP reported. (albawaba.com)
