HSBC ANNOUNCES SENIOR MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS

HSBC has appointed Niall Booker as Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited with effect from 18 May 2006. He replaces David Hodgkinson who will take up the position of Group Chief Operating Officer, HSBC Holdings plc in London.

Mr. Booker joins from HSBC India where he was Group General Manager and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to working in India, he was Chief Executive Officer, International Private Banking, in the United States of America.

Since joining HSBC in 1981, Mr. Booker has gained extensive international experience, through undertaking a broad range of senior managerial roles within the Group. Over the years, he has worked in personal banking in Brunei and the UK, specialised finance in Hong Kong, banking operations in Abu Dhabi, trade finance and corporate Banking in Japan, in addition to holding the position of Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Thailand.

Mr. Booker said: “I am pleased to have the opportunity to return to the Middle East during a period of unprecedented economic growth across the region, and I look forward to building upon the numerous achievements and solid foundations laid by David during his tenor with both The Saudi British Bank (SABB) and HSBC Bank Middle East Limited.”

Mr. Hodgkinson commented: “The Middle East region is a strategic priority for the HSBC Group, and I am delighted that aspects of my new role will allow me to represent the needs of both our regional customers and colleagues, at the highest levels within the HSBC Group. In recent years, we have built upon our stature as the largest international bank within the Middle East, by for example, expanding upon our regional footprint, introducing innovative banking services - such as HSBC Amanah, the HSBC Group global Islamic financial services; and by the establishment of a leading investment banking platform. It has been a privilege to lead a talented team of employees, and I wish Niall every success in his new role.”

HSBC has also announced the appointment of Antoine Cahuzac as Head of Global Banking – Corporate, Investment Banking and Markets, Middle East, HSBC Bank Middle East Limited. Antoine succeeds Mukhtar Hussain, who is also relocating to the Group’s London Head Office, to assume the position of Co-Head, Global Banking, HSBC Bank plc.
