First Lady Hillary Clinton on Monday welcomed Laura Bush, wife of President-elect George W. Bush, to the White House they will call home for the next four years.
"We're going to go in and have a visit," said senator-elect Clinton, who braved the freezing cold winter weather to greet Bush on the south side of the White House under a giant Christmas wreath.
Asked whether the stately mansion was familiar to her, Bush said "I sort of know it," in part thanks to stays during the presidency of her father-in-law, George Bush, whom President Bill Clinton defeated in the 1992 election.
As the two women met, hammering could be heard on the far side of the president's home, where viewing stands were being erected for Bush's inauguration -- WASHINGTON (AFP)
