Al Jazira Sports and Health Foundation officially appointed Abu Dhabi-based Kenzi Marketing Solution House as their Media and PR partner for the Hepatitis Awareness Campaign launched by the Foundation. The official signing ceremony took place on October 10th, 2006, at Al Jazira Sports Club.
H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, President of Aljazira Club and Vice President of Honorary Board formed the National Committee on Hepatitis Awareness in February 2006.
The Hepatitis Awareness Campaign is the Foundation’s first public awareness effort covering Hepatitis in the region and is supervised by the National Committee on Hepatitis Awareness.
The purpose of the National Committee is to minimise the spread of Hepatitis by executing a comprehensive awareness campaign, providing education and contributing to services reinforcing prevention.
The Foundation functions across a spectrum of objectives to improve awareness of public health issues. With an overall mission to promote a healthy lifestyle for the benefit of the community, particularly the youth, the Al Jazira Sports and Health Foundation will integrate sports and health through numerous educational awareness campaigns on diseases of public concern. The Hepatitis Awareness Campaign, to be launched in November 2006, will be the Foundation’s first health awareness campaign.
Hepatitis is a disease of the liver, classified by subtypes A, B, C, D and E, and it is caused by a variety of factors. The most common subtypes affecting the general public are A, B and C, each of which differs in severity, modes of transmission, treatment and prevention.
The National Committee for Hepatitis Awareness has conducted extensive research on the need for information about Hepatitis. With the dedicated co-operation of respective preventive medical departments, a thorough assessment of project needs was carried out through training workshops, focus groups and analysis of the qualitative and quantitative data gathered over the last seven months.
Based in Abu Dhabi, Al Jazira Sports and Health Foundation is a non-profit organisation working in connection with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Al Jazira Sports Club and the Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training, CERT. The Foundation was created in order to link the benefits of sports to a healthy lifestyle.
“This project and all subsequent efforts would not have been possible without the dedication and support of H. H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, President of Aljazira Club and Vice President of Honorary Board, the founder of this project. The Hepatitis Awareness Campaign reflects His Highness’s commitment to the greater public good,” highlighted Dr. Hamad Al Ghaferi, Director of the National Committee.
Stemming from His Highness’s vision for partnerships between different sectors of society, several national organisations have so far generously supported this campaign, assuming their social responsibility and commitment to the community.
“First Gulf Bank, Sorouh Real Estate, The National Bank of Abu Dhabi and ADNOC Distribution are given full recognition for their co-operation, support and acknowledgment of the need for this kind of health awareness campaign.," said Dr Hamad, adding, "We look forward to further collaborating with other interested parties in the Foundation's future public health awareness initiatives."
