The president of the Italian parliament, Luciano Violante, arrived in Tehran overnight for an official visit of several days, state radio reported Saturday.
Violante is due to hold talks with President Mohammed Khatami; his parliamentary counterpart, Mehdi Karubi; Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi and other top officials, sources said.
Meanwhile, diplomats said that Violante, who is leading a delegation of six Italian MPs, will also give a speech at Tehran university.
He will also take part, along with representatives from China, Egypt and the United Nations, in a seminar on the "dialogue among civilizations," one of the key themes of Khatami that has been adopted by the UN for 2001 – TEHRAN (AFP)
