The Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour has launched the summer program titled ‘Safety in the Heat 2010’. This program encourages companies to register through a website www.haad-safe.ae thereby generating awareness of working in the region during summer.
The summer brings about several health-related issues such as heat stress, prickly heat, heat cramps, dehydration, heat exhaustion and more seriously, heat strokes. A portal has been designed to focus in detail on problems and precautionary methods to be adopted during the summer months.
The objective of the campaign is to generate awareness among employers across large, medium and small organizations. A full range of training and awareness resources are being made available for supervisors, occupational health and safety professionals.
The campaign highlights precautionary steps, provides essential information on dangers of heat exposure and advice on control measures for heat illnesses. Prevention methods such as identifying signs and symptoms of dehydration, heat illness and recommended fluid intake to maintain hydration have also been highlighted.
The promotional material can be received free of cost by registering on the website. The collaterals include posters, pamphlets, videos, DVD/CD sets and training material. The promotional material is available in multiple languages that include Arabic, English, Urdu, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu and Tamil to cater to a diverse workforce. A special poster focusing on the Ramadan month is also available.
