Four men who had escaped the deadly violence in Iraq’s troubled western province of Anbar have been fatally shot in the head by unidentified militants after being abducted, official Iraqi sources say.

“Unknown gunmen, wearing military uniforms, broke into one of the houses in the Bayaa area (in the southwestern edge of the capital, Baghdad)... and kidnapped four men who were displaced from Anbar,” a police colonel, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Saturday.

“Less than half an hour later, their bodies were found” blindfolded with gunshot wounds to the head in Bayaa.

A medical official, whose name was not mentioned in the report, said the victims’ hands and legs were bound.

There are reports that militants with the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group have executed at least 6,000 people in Anbar since late 2013.

The reports, citing provincial sources, said the executions have taken place mainly in the cities of Fallujah and Ramadi.
