The Greater Amman Municipality continues its "Tribute to the Late King Hussein" charity campaign which was launched in the Holy Month of Ramadan, by visiting the orphanages, old people homes and charity societies. Such visits will include Mubarra Um Al-Hussein (in Marka), Dar El-Ber, Jordan Orphanage Society, and Children Care Society (in Shafa Badran).

Mayor of Amman’s Advisor for Districts Affairs, and head of the campaign, Mahmoud Al-Armouti, said the campaign comes inline with the directions of His Majesty King Abdullah II to provide those in need as well as the charity organizations with all the required attention and care.

He maintained that the campaign's steering committee has set an agenda to distribute packages through visits to the designated places, which commenced operation in the second week of Ramadan. He noted that Mayor of Amman, Engineer Omar Maani will visit all the charity organizations in the holy month, to make sure operations are conducted well. Aid packages will contain daily iftar meals planned for orphanages and old people homes.

Armouti said the campaign aims at easing the financial burdens on the needy families, and backing the efforts of charity organizations, orphanages and old people homes by providing them with all the requirements during the holy month of Ramadan, including foodstuffs and equipment.

It is worth mentioning that Maani has ordered the campaign's steering committee to set up clear standards and principles regarding the distributing of charity packages to the needy families around the Capital. The committee is also responsible for providing the charity organizations and associations with all the required materials.

Al-Armouti noted that the committee has completed the counting of charity organizations and associations operating in Amman, including orphanages, old people homes, as well as centers of the handicapped and the needy families living in Amman. These organizations and families, he added, are all included in the aid programs during the holy month.

All the charity organizations registered at the Ministry of Social Development will be included in the campaign, beside these registered at the Zakat Fund of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. Armouti said that the Hashemite Charity Commission of Jordan has helped in sourcing out the foodstuffs and materials for the campaign at best prices and high quality levels.

It is worth mentioning that the GAM Council has agreed to launch the annual campaign for this year at JD750000.
