Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday appointed three new ministers to the transport, civil aviation and health ministries.
The government reshuffle was due to take place since a train fire disaster in southern Egypt killed more than 370 people in February and led to the resignation of transport and civil aviation minister Ibrahim al-Demeiri.
Mubarak decided to split the portfolios, naming Hamdi al-Shayeb, head of a public sector oil company, to the transport ministry and Egypt's air force chief, General Ahmed Shafic, as civil aviation minister.
At the health ministry, Mohammad Awad Tag Eddine, dean of Ain Shams University in the Egyptian capital, took over from Ismail Sallam, adding that the new ministers were to be sworn in Tuesday before Hosni Mubarak, according to AFP citing MENA News Agency.
The Egyptian president last reshuffled the cabinet of Prime Minister Atef Ebeid on November 21 in an attempt to absorb the economic downfall of the September 11 attacks on the United States. (Albawaba.com)
