German President Johannes Rau congratulated Wednesday George W. Bush after initial reports of his election victory as US President saying he was "a good friend of our country."
"We know you as a good friend of our country and are happy about the continuance of the close friendship between our people during your term," Rau said in a letter sent to Bush and released here.
Rau told Bush he was "undertaking a task of the greatest responsibility not only for the future of America but also for peace in the world." – BERLIN (AFP)
