Gaza Strip: Three Palestinians, including senior Hamas activist, dead

Palestinian sources said late Sunday that a senior Hamas activist was assassinated by an Israeli missile strike on his car in northern Gaza City.  

 

The sources said that Khaled Abu-Shamiyeh, 30, a resident of the Shati refugee camp next to Gaza City, was killed and three other Palestinians were injured in the attack.  

 

Abu-Shamiyeh had survived an attack two weeks ago when Israel bombed a Hamas training camp, killing 15 in the Gaza City neighborhood of Sajaiya.  

 

Another Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli troops in centarl Gaza Strip late Sunday, Israeli sources reported. 

 

Earlier in the day, Israeli occupation forces shot dead a Palestinian east of Gaza, witnesses and Palestinian medical sources said. they told WAFA that Israeli troops, stationed near al-Montar commercial crossing, opened fire and killed Rami Abu Lihya on the spot. 

 

They added that several other Palestinians were wounded in this incident. Medical sources at Kamal Odwan hospital, in Beit Lahya, said that Abu Lihya, 18, from Jabalia Refugee Camp, was killed after being shot with live gunshots in the head and chest.  

 

The Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, confirmed the death of Abu Lihya, in an armed clash with Israeli occupation troops. 

 

The Quds communiquי said that Rami opened his machinegun fire at a group of Israeli soldiers near the "Nahal Uz" crossing "inflicting casualties in their lines." 

 

Meanwhile, Israeli troops broke early on Sunday into Abu al-Ajeen area, southern Deir al-Balah city, central of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian security sources said. 

 

They told WAFA that massive Israeli force, backed by two tanks and several military jeeps, broke into the area amid intensive fire shooting, razing vast areas of arable land owned by al-Smeery family. 

 

Earlier on Saturday, a Palestinian was wounded when Israeli soldiers opened fire against houses in Khan Younis city, Palestinian medical sources in the city said. Maher Abu Elwan was wounded after being shot with a live gunshot in the left thigh, the medics added. 

 

In the West Bank city of Bethlehem, Israeli soldiers stormed early Sunday al-Dheisheh refugee camp and al-Doha area of the city and arrested two Palestinians, witnesses said. 

 

In Jenin, Israeli troops rolled into al-Yamoun town and Beir al-Basha village of the city, besieged a house, and arrested a Palestinian, residents said. (albawaba.com)
