GAM Resumes Implementing the Handicrafts Market and Completes 40% of the 2nd Phase

Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) completed 40% of the 2nd phase of the handicrafts market established in Ras Al Ein region, in the old location of the electricity company (Hangar), and on the surrounding areas with a space area of 7 dunnums.
According to the Director of Supervision and Projects, Mohammed Kharabsheh, the project is to be finalized by the end of September, giving a space to display and sell handicraft products, such as traditional sculptures and handmade products.
He mentioned that the cost of the 2nd phase amounted to 250,000 JOD, including the 3 floor premises in a space area of 1050 m2, pointing out that the ground floor was designed to encompass 6 stores for traditional heritage handicrafts, like jewelry, pottery, copper pots, and fabric.
The 1st floor is to display hobbies, ideas, products, and artistic works reflecting the Ammani lifestyle, and the 2nd floor comprising the main cafeteria, terraces, and stairs overlooking the main yard and Amman Mountains. There is also a retaining wall protecting the rocky cut adjacent to the project.
According to a press statement by Eng. Kharabsheh, GAM completed the construction works of the building’s structure, and the interior finishing is to be commenced soon.
He stated also that GAM finalized the 1st phase of the project, which included maintenance and renovation of the metal hanger with a space area of 1300 m2, which consists of 7 stores, warehouses, street vending spots for handmade sculptures.
The 1st phase which cost 1 million and 200,000 JOD, includes sanitations and a cafeteria, glass fronts, and an upper pathway to be used as an exhibition for the paintings and for following up on the market activities, in addition to exterior paved yards, parking lots, flower basins, and benches, all on a space area of about 4,000 m2.
Establishing such a market in Ras El Ein is a complementary step for the cultural and touristic projects in the area, such as the National Museum, Al Hussein Cultural Center, and the National Institute for Music.
