GAM declares readiness to deal with the prevailing weather conditions

Greater Amman Municipality(GAM) , within its preparations to deal with the prevailing weather conditions ,and weather predictions of snow,  has committed 12 snow sweepers, 24 loaders ,  and 4 graders to serve its emergency room of Tla’ Al Ali and Ras Al Ein, in addition to one loader at each district of Municipality.
Deputy City Director for Public Works, engineer Fawzi Mas’ad said that GAM is more than ready to handle the low altitude as of the evening of Wednesday at a maximum alert status.
  Engineer Mas’ad further added that GAM shall execute the plan of sweeping snow off the streets upon snow fall, with priority given to the main streets serving the widest spectrum of the citizens, the critical locations, hospitals, and, at a later stage move, to the side streets.
He also stressed that coordination with the Ministry of Public Works is being maintained to clean the main streets falling within the jurisdiction of the Ministry.
Within the same context, GAM has furnished a center to receive remarks and complaints, to which engineer Mas’ad called on the residents not to hesitate contacting the Center, and to file any remark or observation relating to GAM’s duties regarding water gathering, or any streets impediments resulting from snow falling by calling telephone numbers : 5359970 or 5359971.
GAM official, Mas’ad, drew the attention to GAM’s preparation of quantities of salt to be used in cases of frost and the freezing status.
Engineer Mas’ad called on the unprepared cars for such conditions not to venture into going out for their safety’s sake and to enable GAM’s automotives perform their duties without any hindrances.                                      
The technical teams have been in full gear to handle the prevailing weather conditions, in addition to keeping pace, round the clock, with the weather developments and changes as per the Meteorological Department announcements.
The teams have cleaned the manholes, the sewage lines, the rain water drainage lines, the entrances and exits of the drainage tunnels, and the uncovered canals, in coordination with the districts directorates. The teams have also been active on opening the water courses of the streams and natural valleys by the proper automotives.
It is a standing procedure on the part of GAM to instruct work shop owners and contractors to keep the streets, the valley courses, manholes, and water drainage clean and void of any construction debris that may be scattered on the roads sides, especially in the summer season; such measures shall prevent the drifting of these materials during rain drop in winter.
In the same context, GAM, as soon as winter ends, does treat malfunctions in some of the locations, as a result of rain water drainage during rain drop; the Municipality treated 155 locations of the Capital in the years 2008/2009.
