Libya and Egypt will again attempt to help Sudan and Uganda improve their troubled relations, with all four countries represented here next Thursday at a technical committee meeting, the official SUNA news agency said Friday.
The committee will discuss arrangements for normalization of relations between Sudan and Uganda, the Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail was quoted as saying by the agency.
The meeting was decided at a recent ministerial meeting of the four countries in the Ugandan capital Kampala.
That meeting also agreed that diplomatic ties between Sudan and Uganda, severed since 1995, be reestablished gradually with two Ugandan diplomats stationed in the Kenyan embassy in Khartoum and two Sudanese diplomats stationed in the Libyan embassy in Nairobi, said Dr. Ismail following his return from Kampala Thursday.
He said it was also agreed that the Khartoum meeting would discuss the root causes of the longstanding tension between the two neighbors, particularly the presence in either country of the armed opposition of the other -- the Ugandan Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) in Uganda.
The two sides have pledged to abide by the principle of non-interference in each other's domestic affairs, the Sudanese Foreign Minister said -- KHARTOUM (AFP)
