Four mortar shells rattled northeastern Tehran Sunday evening, but there were no reports of injuries, reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), quoting eyewitnesses as saying.
The Mujahideen Khalq organization, in a statement faxed to AFP, said it had launched rocket-propelled grenades, not mortar shells, on the central Islamic revolution
court and the revolutionary prosecutor's headquarters.
It said the attack was "carried out in response to the recent wave of executions in Tehran and the brutal sentences passed on young people by the mullahs' judiciary, which have aroused the wrath and hatred of the Iranian people."
According to IRNA, Sunday's attack is the third that the group has claimed in two weeks.
The two earlier attacks, said IRNA, targeted intelligence ministry offices and the state security forces.
Khalq has bases in Iraq, with members scattered also in Europe and northern America occasionally with some degree of official support from their host countries, according to IRNA.
Earlier this month, Iran's intelligence minister, Ali Yunessi, said that the Khalq is on the way out -- Albawaba.com
