An Iraqi court sentenced 40 people to death on Thursday in connection with the execution of hundreds of soldiers in 2014.
Around 1,700 military recruits were executed in June 2014 after Daesh terrorists seized control of the western city of Tikrit.
The incident was later coined the “Speicher” massacre, in reference to the base where the victims were captured before being executed.
Thursday’s verdicts are still subject to appeal.
In June, an Iraqi court sentenced 24 people to death in connection with the executions.
