Turkey's military said four troops and four Kurdish gunmen have been killed in clashes near the border with Iraq. According to the AP, it added another soldier was killed in a helicopter crash.
The military conveyed the four soldiers were killed late Wednesday when a group of gunmen of the Kurdistan Workers Party opened fire on the soldiers near the border. The military's statement Thursday said the helicopter crashed — due to a technical fault — while trying to block the gunmen's escape path. The statement said 15 security personnel were also slightly hurt in the crash.
