Four Iraqi policemen died in a car bombing in the centre of the northern city of Mosul on Thursday, a police official said. According to AFP, Major Alaa Monaf al-Jubouri said the attack killed four policemen and injured three other people, including a civilian.
Also in Mosul, three unidentified gunmen killed a local Sunni official on Thursday, said a second police officia. Abdul-Kareem Khalaf al-Sharabi, deputy chief of the National Dialogue Front in Mosul, was shot dead near his house in western Mosul, he said. On Wednesday, at least five people -- three policemen, a soldier and a Sunni Arab party official -- were killed in a string of attacks in Mosul.
Elsewhere, the U.S. military said an American soldier has died of non-combat injuries in Iraq. The soldier was found unresponsive by fellow troops in Baghdad on Feb. 8 and attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
