Taliban spokesman Abdul Latif Hakimi confirmed reports on Wednesday that an unidentified Afghan woman had been executed by the group following accusations that she had been spying for US led forces. This is the first case of execution of a woman by the Taliban.
Hakimi stated that because the woman "was a spy for the Americans", she was targeted. In addition, her father and brother were also kidnapped by the Taliban, according to Reuters.
The incident took place in the southern district of Zabul late Tuesday night.
An American soldier was also killed on Monday by the group, which was has executed several other people in the past on similar charges ever since they were ousted from power in 2001 by American forces.
