Armed Islamic insurgents stopped a bus at a fake roadblock, seized five soldiers and cut their throats during weekend Algerian violence in which 10 died, newspapers reported Monday.

The newspaper El Khabar said some 40 insurgents disguised as police set up the phony roadblock in Batna area southeast of Algiers on Saturday.

After checking passengers' papers, they lured the five conscripts on to the road, drove them to an isolated spot and killed them.

In a separate incident, three teenagers playing dominos in the street died in a hail of bullets fired by extremists.

Reports said the three were killed in the Medea area just after the end of the Ramadan evening feast.

In the same region, an armed group killed a shepherd and a poultry farmer on Saturday, reports said.

The reports in the newspapers El Khabar and Le Matin could not be confirmed independently – ALGIERS (AFP)
