European Union envoy Miguel Angel Moratinos arrived in Damascus on Tuesday for talks with Syrian officials.
The envoy will meet Wednesday with Syrian Foreign Minister Faruq al-Shara, who recently met with Moratinos in New York.
The visit is Moratinos' first to Syria since Bashar al-Assad was inaugurated president in July.
US-brokered talks between Syria and Israel have been at a standstill since January, with Damascus demanding a return of all parts of the Golan Heights, which Israel captured in the 1967 war -- DAMASCUS (AFP)
