The Emirates Foundation today gave a major boost for UAE national students taking up places on Masters Programmes at the British University in Dubai (BUiD).
Up to ninety UAE national students who meet BUiD’s entry qualifications and take up places on one of the University’s Masters programmes in February will be eligible to receive a scholarship amounting to half of the fees.
One of the main roles of The Emirates Foundation is to foster the UAE’s Education, Technological and Intellectual development through public-private partnership. In particular, it aims to enable UAE nationals to become qualified to take on more senior positions of leadership and responsibility across the whole of the UAE.
David Lock, Registrar and Acting Chief Executive of BUiD said: “The support of the Emirates Foundation is invaluable in so far as it enables intelligent and well motivated national students to study full or part-time at BUiD and enriches the learning environment at the University.”
“BUiD’s close working relationship with government and major public sector bodies will ensure that the education received by the students is as relevant as it can possibly be to the economic and cultural needs of the Emirates. This will enable students to play a full part in developing their careers and the country,” he added.
The British University in Dubai is the Gulf’s only research based post-graduate University. It was established as a not-for-profit University by decree and provides Masters Programmes to UK standards in the fields of Information Technology, Project Management, Education, IT Management, Finance and Banking and the Environmental Design of Buildings.
Programmes can be studied on BUiD’s Knowledge Village campus in Dubai and significant elements of the Project Management programme can also be studied in Abu Dhabi. BUiD is partnered with the top rank British universities in Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff and City University in London.
Half of BUiD’s students are UAE Nationals and the other half are of 25 different nationalities thereby giving an internationally vibrant learning environment.
Deputy Chief Executive of the Emirates Foundation, Omar Saif Ghobash said: “The decision to award the scholarships was taken to enable a higher number of well qualified and highly motivated UAE nationals to benefit from the high quality of programmes being delivered by BUiD.”
“Earlier Emirates Foundation sponsored scholars at BUiD have shown considerable motivation and success and the Foundation wishes to see more UAE nationals fulfill their potential and play a greater part in running of their organisations and society generally,” he added.
Students wishing to apply for scholarships should visit the University’s website at www.buid.ac.ae or telephone +971 4 3913626 by 21st January 2007.
