Emirates Aluminium (EMAL), has triumphed at the Dubai Quality Group's (DQG) World Quality Day celebrations, earning accolades in two categories despite the smelter being in only its first year of operations.

Held globally on the second Thursday of November every year, World Quality Day is celebrated locally by Dubai Quality Group – DQG, created by the Dubai Department of Economic Development. DGQ is a non-profit organisation of 2,000 individuals representing over 380 prominent organizations from both the private and the public sectors. The celebration and competition aims to promote awareness of quality around the world and to encourage individuals' and organisations' growth and prosperity.

Actual case studies were submitted by EMAL to prove the success of its experience in the process of continual improvement and innovation, and rewarded based on the application of advanced quality methodologies such as Lean, European Foundation for Quality Model (EFQM), Kaizen, Six Sigma, Reengineering, and innovation in products and services.

Representing EMAL, a joint venture between Mubadala and Dubai Aluminium, the EMAL Business Systems Team received the Silver Award in the Quality Quiz category, and with the EMAL Power Plant Maintenance Team picked up a Bronze in the Innovation category with their case study - 'Enhance life of Gas Turbine Air inlet Filters'.

Saeed Fadhel Al Mazrooei, President and CEO of EMAL said, "The World Quality Day Awards is the perfect platform for our employees to display EMAL as a centre of excellence, where quality and innovation can be seen in every aspect of our organisation. For our employees to be recognised in not one, but two categories in the first year of operations is outstanding, and a good indication that our ambitions as part of the capital's 2030 plan are on track and destined for success."

With state-of-the-art facilities and a focus on the development of human capital, EMAL is aiming for operational excellence with optimum customer satisfaction. The company is also developing leadership through EMAL's Centre of Excellence that will cultivate talents from EMAL, its suppliers and the downstream businesses situated in the Khalifa Port Industrial Zone.

"EMAL is a major component of the capital's 2030 Vision, and with the support of our shareholders, we intend to become the aluminium market's supplier of choice both locally and globally, in line with the ambitious goals set by Abu Dhabi," added Al Mazrooei.
