An Egyptian provincial court ruled Wednesday to suspend the country's presidential election scheduled for later this month, a judicial source told AFP. However, this decision is unlikely to be applied.
Banha Administrative Court held that it was not part of the prerogatives of the Election Commission Chief to call for the vote. The first round is scheduled for 23 and 24 May.
But the decision will be contested on Thursday in Cairo and expected to be canceled, according to judicial sources, because Marshal Hussein Tantawi - the de facto head of state - has delegated this authority to the Chief of the Commission.
Meanwhile, the ruling military council will carry out a limited government reshuffle, reported the official news agency MENA, quoting an official source. Relevant ministries are Education, Culture, Employment and Parliamentary Affairs.
