ALBAWABA- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is set to visit Turkey on September 4, 2024, at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
This visit will mark a significant moment in Turkish-Egyptian relations, as the two leaders will hold the first meeting of the newly reconstituted High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
The Council, established during President Erdogan's visit to Cairo in February 2024, aims to strengthen bilateral ties after years of strained relations.
During the meeting, the two presidents will review all aspects of Turkish-Egyptian relations and discuss joint initiatives to enhance cooperation between their countries further.
The agenda will also cover pressing regional and international issues, particularly the ongoing brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.
In addition to these discussions, several agreements and memoranda are expected to be signed to solidify the contractual foundation of the two nations' relations.
The leaders will also address the growing concerns over Ethiopia's actions in the region, including its recent agreements with the unrecognized Somaliland government to establish a Red Sea port, which Egypt views as a direct threat to its national security.
The situation has intensified following Ethiopia's completion of the Renaissance Dam, leading Egypt to deploy military assets in Somalia. Cooperation with Turkey in case of further escalation is anticipated.
This visit represents a crucial step in mending the relationship between Turkey and Egypt, which had been strained since the 2013 ouster of Egypt's former President Mohammed Morsi, an ally of Erdoğan.
The February 2024 visit by Erdoğan to Cairo was the first since 2012, signaling a renewed commitment to normalizing ties and addressing key regional challenges.
