Forty Egyptian and American businessmen working in Egypt will start their trip called “Doors Ways” to Washington on the 25th of March to discuss Egyptian-American economic relations. The future of American aid to Egypt, and the proposed free trade zone between the two countries, will be at the top of the agenda.

The businessmen are members of the American chamber of commerce in Cairo

The visit, the 19th of its type, comes as a preparation for President Mubarak’s visit to Washington, which will be the first since US President George Bush took office in January.

The delegation will meet Congress members in Washington and some of the new administration officials in addition to representatives of a number of American business associations.

The Chamber of Commerce Chief executive, Hisham Fahmi, told the Cairo based Al Alam Al Yawm newspaper that during this visit, an office for the chamber will be opened in Washington to serve as a link between the American companies, and the Egyptian companies willing to cooperate with them.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s Prime Minister Atef Ebeid said Sunday that total US investments in Egypt hit $2.5 billion (LE 9 billion) in 2000, reported the weekly Egypt Online.

Ebeid's remarks came during a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce – Albawaba.com
