EgyptAir will be the first airline to connect UAE’s Sharjah with Mumbai, India when its inaugural flight takes off on May 5, reported the Gulf News on Thursday.
Abu Bakar Balah, the company's district manager for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, said the service would operate once a week.
"The flight, which will originate in Cairo, departs from Sharjah for Mumbai every Saturday at 8:30 a.m.," he said.
The airline operates two flights a week from Cairo to Sharjah, he said, according to the paper.
The airline is also considering starting Sharjah-Delhi service soon, said Balah.
"We will operate on the Sharjah-Delhi sector only if there is good demand," he added. The airline will also begin flying the Sharjah-Luxor route from June 27 to carry tourists to the archaeological sites.
But, he said, "we hope to get a good response on the Sharjah-Mumbai sector as it will be launched in the high summer season when a lot of people go on vacation to India."
He said that the airline would also promote the route among its travel agents and would offer tour packages for passengers from Cairo and Sharjah to India and vice versa – Albawaba.com
