The second and final round of presidential elections started Saturday in Egypt. Approximately 150,000 military and many police officers were deployed to secure polling stations.
The elections are being held not only in the absence of a new constitution, but also two days after the dissolution of the newly elected parliament.
The ballot prepared by the electoral commission includes two candidates: Ahmed Shafik, the last PM of the deposed regime of President Hosni Mubarak and Mohammed Mursi, a leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Final results be announced on June 21. Unofficial results could be announced as early as Sunday evening. The transfer of powers from the ruling military council to the elected head of state should take place no later than June 30.
